The real reason Occupy Tietjerksteradeel is dangerous

US Rep. Eric Cantor is a disaster.  He was going to speak at the prestigious Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia.  His staff said that this speech was on “how we make sure the people at the top stay there.”  Eric Cantor is the 1% – the most unapologetic part of it.  The Occupy Philly group decided to go to the speech, for which there were three hundred seats open to the public on a first come first serve basis. They came first.

Cantor refused to speak to the crowd and canceled his speech.

This may seem like a small thing, but it is shows the door to much larger opportunities.  NOOFL is looking at doing more demonstrations in Richmond.  We are automatically drawn to the Occupy Richmond group to court participants there for Richmond protests around these two closed reactors.

And the additional beauty/possibility is that when these Occupy hoards integrate well, there is a participatory power which is moved to homeless people who were sleeping in many of these parks long before the more politicized protester arrived.  Thus angry and disenfranchised people are mixed with political organizers and sympathetic progressives.  Preventing this volatile chemistry, is the same reason that they don’t permit most incarcerated political prisoners to be placed into the general prison population.  They don’t want riots.

They are rioting at the Occupy Oakland tonight.  This is almost certainly not the last one.

The name Tietjerksteradeel comes from the name of a town in Friesland, that while technically in the Netherlands, would be insulted to be called Dutch (they would certainly prefer Freisish).  In the dutch culture, the place name “Tietjerksteradeel” signifies a cross between “anywhere” and “the end of the universe”.  I use it as  a sort of international version of Occupy Anywhere/Everywhere.

Thanks to Hawina for the proper spelling of Tietjerksteradeel.  Thanks to Angie for the Eric Cantor story and link and the photos of the Occupy Oakland protest.  Photo Credit http://yfrog.com/h8dgtfxjj
