1985 SIX-MONTH REVIEW TRADEOFFS

MAKE YOUR CHOICES ADD UP TO 19,000 OR LESS

What this means.
As you know, the KDC overrun was announced at $70,000, not counting various furnishings and miscellaneous. Taking that figure as if it had already been spent, as if the total for the building were $300,000, we predicted next year's priority money to be (conservatively) $65,000.

However, much of th "overrun" has in fact not been spent yet. We've spent $14 of it, in fact. So we have the option of spending less on the KDC now (or more, for that matter). If we spend less, we will have either more money to trade off in 1986 or else a higher working capital, depending on how conservatively we view the coming years when we get closer to November.

The planners have authorized about $37,000 more spending for the mechanicals, hoods, floor, doors, and pre-committed things. Decisions about the remaining items, however, are for the community at large to choose. We are expecting to be guided in our decision-making primarily by the "votes" on the tradeoff game.

In addition, several third- and fourth-quarter requests have come in, and we are adding them to the game to give everyone a complete view of the dimensions of the decisions. They, too, should be part of whatever total you decide to go for.

The planners think it is safe and reasonable to spend $19k (total of $70k) during this period in order to get the KDC closer to completion. However, we are not attached or committed to that figure or any other. If we get mostly feedback that says to save the money for later, that's what we'll do.

LABOR REQUESTS

Our resident labor is adding about 1500 hours this season, so we could go for some of these requests. Mark each of these labor requests with a "V" or a "C" or an "N", which will be interpreted as follows:

"V" -- Vital. You are willing to see quota at 49 for this.
"C" -- Conditional. Quota up to 47.5 ok with you for this.
"N" -- Nonessential. You'd rather have lower quota than this.
