first of spring

i live in a hyper-village which operates on a modified harvest calendar. The first day of spring is when more than three people complete a hack after the last snow.

Hackisack is an elegant cooperative game where the group competes against gravity.  The rules are simple:

1) dont use your hands

2) dont say your sorry

3) dont repeat the rules

The object is for everyone in the circle to hit the little sack in such a way that another player can hit it.  When everyone in the circle does this it is called a “hack”.  Yesterday was gorgeous weather,  and the first hack circle happened as it often does here at lunch.  I have dozens of things to be appreciative of.  But what really struck me on this first day of spring, which was nominally my birthday, is that i could play this game with 20 somethings and 30 somethings and be a completely respectable player.

And what i love about the culture here, is that people who have never played before, because their experience of it (typically in college) was too competitive, learn how to play here and get quite good at it.
